[Album release date : 7 October, 1996
Rick Wright is (ia !) a founder member of Pink Floyd along with Nick Mason & Roger Waters.
Broken China is Rick's third solo album, following Wet Dreams in 1978 and Identity in 1984
The album artwork is designed by Storm Thorgerson, famous for all his work in the past with Floyd
Rick has wroitten all the songs - continuing a writing legacy with Floyd that includes The Great Gig In The Sky, Us and Them and Wearing The Inside Out (from The Divison Bell). As with Wearing The Inside Out, many of the songs feature lyrics by Anthony Moore who also co-produced the album
The album was recorded at Rick's home studio in France and includes top session men Manu Katchje and Pino Palladino, as well as touring  Floyd guitarist Tim Renwick. Sinead O'Connor sing vocals on two tracks. Rick invited her as "the first voice to come into my head because I feld she could express the songs emotionally"
The album is a cycle in four sections. The theme of the album reflects the experience of a close friend, who Rick supported through their difficulties with clinical depression. As Rick puts it "I wanted to try and express something of the nightmare of depression ... and the release and joy of the breakthrough at the end"]
